The political landscape of Latin America changed dramatically during a remarkable period in time in the early 21st Century when four women occupied the presidencies of the three most important countries in South America and the most important one in Central America. All of them were the first women elected to the presidency in their respective countries, and together, from 2006 to 2018, they governed well over half of the population of that part of the Americas and presided over four countries that are widely
recognized as leaders in terms of economic power and political influence.
